Scarborough Leisure Village
Location : Scarborough | Status : Completed | Sector : Sport, Stadia
Description
Wrenbridge were the development partners to Scarborough Borough Council for the delivery of the new leisure village.
The scheme comprises a 2,000 capacity stadium that will enable the football club to return back to the town and includes a state of the art 3G pitch that will ensure year round use by all of the local community. Alongside the stadium, a leisure centre is being provided that includes a 4-court indoor sports hall, squash courts, gym, dance studio and community facilities. A new eight-lane swimming pool will also be included as part of the project and utilises one of the training pools used for the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympics demonstrating a continuing legacy from the Games for all of the UK.
In order to fund and deliver the new Leisure Village, Wrenbridge developed three separate sites within Scarborough for a combination of education, retail and residential uses together with public funding from Sport England and the Football Association. On completion, the Leisure Village was handed over to the Borough Council and has proven to be a fantastic facility for the local people of Scarborough and the wider region with sports participation numbers increasing considerably.
Our development proposals for the Weaponness site alongside the new leisure village include an education campus. This comprises a new University Technical College (UTC) for 14 to 18 year olds as well as a new Scarborough campus for Coventry University (CUSC). Wrenbridge have promoted these sites and are also acting as development managers for the CUSC.
Of the other development sites, the former football ground site at Seamer Road was developed for a new food store for Lidl and low cost housing by Gleeson. The remaining site at Filey Road will consist of family housing with further sports facilities being provided for a local school and tennis club.
